Albert Greene (born April 13, 1946),<ref name="bio">{{cite web |url=http://afgen.com/al_green.html |title=Al Green: Biography |accessdate=2008-02-27 |format=HTML </ref> better known as Al Green, is an United States|American gospel music|gospel and soul music singer who received great acclaim in the 1970s. At the 2008 BET Awards Green was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, for all the work he has done throughout his career.

Early years
Green was born in Forrest City, Arkansas.<ref name="bio" /> The son of a Sharecropping|sharecropper, he started performing at age ten in a Forrest City quartet called the Greene Brothers; he dropped the final "e" from his last name years later as a solo artist. They toured extensively in the mid-1950s in the South until the Greenes moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, when they began to tour around Michigan.<ref>{{cite book|last=Darden|first=Robert |coauthors=Darden, Bob|title=People Get Ready!: A New History of Black Gospel Music|publisher=Continuum International Publishing Group|date=2005|pages=296|isbn=0-826-41752-3</ref> His father kicked him out of the group because he caught Green listening to Jackie Wilson.<ref>{{cite book|last=Booth|first=Stanley |title=Rythm Oil: A Journey Through the Music of the American South|publisher=Da Capo Press|date=2000|pages=150|isbn=0-306-80
