 Dave Barnes (born David Barnes on June 20, 1978) is a rock music|rock-Rhythm and blues|R&B singer-songwriter from Kosciusko, Mississippi in the United States|U.S.. Barnes is known - aside from his music - by his humorous and witty anecdotes. As a recording artist, Barnes is one of few successful artists who has achieved critical and some commercial success as an Indie (music)#Indie meaning "not major-label"|independent recording artist.

Biography
The oldest of three children, Dave Barnes was born in South Carolina in 1978. He is the son of a pastor who relocated his family to Kosciusko,
Mississippi, just as Dave turned six years old. The Barnes family then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee the summer before Dave's junior year in high school. Barnes went to college to further his studies playing drum set and once getting to college started playing guitar and writing songs for fun. He was initially only interested in writing material for other performers but was later encouraged by his peers to perform his works himself. Barnes accepted their encouragement and began performing within the campus at Middle Tennessee State University, and later began performing at various nearby universities in nearby regional centres as well as his own.
