Joseph Francis Robert Dolan (October 16 1939 – December 26 2007), was an Ireland|Irish singer of easy listening songs.
Life and career Joe Dolan's first job was as a compositor with the ''Westmeath Examiner'' before starting his musical career when he and his brother joined The Drifters in the early 1960s. This launched his career as a showband entertainer.<ref name="bn_dolan" /> His biggest chart-topper|hit was "Make Me An Island" (written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood), which went to Number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in 1969, and Number 1 in fourteen other countries. He was very popular in Ireland and among Irish diaspora|Irish emigrants from 1964 into the 1980s. He toured a great deal, and had several stints in Las Vegas, Nevada|Las Vegas. In 1978, Dolan became the first Western pop music|pop singer to perform in the Soviet Union. In 1997, he re-recorded "Good Looking Woman" as a charity record with Dustin the Turkey, reaching Number One in the Irish Singles Chart. In 1998 and 1999, he released two successful albums of cover version|covers of songs by Britpop and rock music|rock musician|artists, including Blur (band)|Blur, Oasis (band)|Oasis, U2 and Bruce Springsteen.
