Kenneth Gorelick (born June 5, 1956), better known by his stage name Kenny G, is an United States|American saxophonist whose fourth album, ''Duotones'', brought him "breakthrough success"<ref name="b&n">{{cite web |url= http://music.barnesandnoble.com/features/interview.asp?NID=598266&z=y|title= Kenny G Is Still the Smooth Jazz King|accessdate=2007-04-07 |date= October, 2002|publisher= Barnes & Noble.com</ref> in 1986. Kenny's main instrument is the soprano saxophone, but he also plays the alto saxophone|alto and tenor saxophone and the flute on occasion.
Early life
Kenny was born in Seattle, Washington,<ref>[http://www.musicianguide.com/biographies/1608000874/Kenny-G.html Kenny G Biography]</ref> and first came into contact with a saxophone when he heard someone performing with one on ''The Ed Sullivan Show''.<ref name="b&n" /> He learned how to play under the direction of local trumpeter Gerald Pfister and by practicing along with Gramophone record|records (mostly of Grover Washington, Jr.), trying to emulate the sounds that he was hearing.<ref name="b&n" /> At Franklin High School (Seattle, Washington)|Franklin High School he failed to get into the jazz band when he applied,<ref name="golfdigest">{{cite web |url= http://www.golfdigest.com/features/index.ssf?/featu... read all
