Laurie Anderson (born Laura Phillips Anderson, on June 5, 1947, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois) is an United States|American experimental performance artist and musician who plays violin and keyboards and sings in a variety of experimental music and art rock styles. Initially trained as a sculptor, Anderson did her first performance art piece in the late 1960s. Throughout the 1970s, Anderson did a variety of different performance art activities. She became widely known outside the art world in 1981 when her single "O Superman," reached number two on the UK pop charts. She also starred in and directed the 1986 concert film, ''Home of the Brave (1986 film)|Home of the Brave''.<ref>http://arted.osu.edu/160/11_Anderson.php</ref>

She has also invented several devices that she has used in her recordings and performance art shows. In 1977, she created a "tape-bow violin" that uses recorded magnetic tape on the bow and a magnetic tape head in the bridge. Conocida por sus presentaciones multimedia, es artista visual, compositora, poeta, fotógrafa, cineasta, experta en electrónica, cantante e instrumentista. O Superman marcó el inicio de su carrera discográfica. Entre sus discos figuran Big Science, Mister Heartbreak, United States Live, Bright Red y Live in New York. Algunos de sus shows fueron United States I-V, Empty Places, The Nerve Bible, Songs and Stories for Moby Dick y Life on a String. También realizó numerosos unipersonales, siendo el último Happiness (2001). Tiene publicados seis libros. Su trabajo como artista visual se expuso en los museos más importantes de los Estados Unidos y Europa. Como compositora, hizo música para películas de Wim Wenders y Jonathan Demme; para espectáculos de danza de Bill T. Jones, Trisha Brown y Molissa Fenley; y para la National Public Radio, la BBC y la Expo '92 en Sevilla. Pionera en el uso de las tecnologías en las artes, colaboró con el Interval Research Corporation, un laboratorio de desarrollo e investigación para la exploración de nuevas herramientas creativas. Ha recibido el Premio a la Composición Electrónica de San Remo 2001 y el Deutsche Schallplatten 2001 y becas de la Fundación Guggenheim y el National Endowment for the Arts. En 2002 fue nombrada como Primera Artista Residente de la NASA, y de aho surgio su produccion solista The End of The Moon, estrenada en 2004, con la que se presentó en todo el mundo, llegando a Buenos Aires en 2005.
