Holland’s most friendly, comfortable, and intimate jazz party bursts out on May 23 & 24. At a crowded press conference, festival director Ruud Wijkniet presented the new edition of The Hague Jazz. The press seemed to be happy, and congratulated him and his festival staff with the program. As ticket sales are booming, we guess you are happy, too! We hope you will have a nice time at our event. The doors are open, and we are happy to welcome you again!
The program (May 23 & May 24) is a challenging, eclectic, and exquisite mixture of old and new, popular and obscure, of mainstream and cutting edge underground, of instrumental and vocal, of comeback and debut. Instantly a hype is born around the artists that make their Dutch debut at The Hague Jazz, such as the Spanish bag pipe virtuoso Hevia, the young Danish dogs called JazzKamikaze that make Rage Against The Machine look like old farts, and the impressive vocalist Caroline Henderson. But also the concerts of Level 42, with one of the world’s greatest drummers Billy Cobham as a featured guest, the émincence grise Toots Thielemans, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (exclusive for Europe), and Miriam Makeba (the farewell tour), received a warm reception.
There’s more than something for anybody, there’s a whole lot of everything for everybody, from Matt Bianco to McCoy Tyner (with special guest Joe Lovano), from Nile Rodgers & CHIC (Omar Hakim on drums!) to Eddie Palmieri, from Gilles Peterson to the New Mastersounds. Yes, we do receive literally hundreds of mails from our ardent supporters and fans, praising us for the program, and thanking us for taking notice of all their hints and suggestions. The Hague Jazz is going to be a smashing party, a sparkling event. We advise you to order your tickets as soon as possible. Last year the Saturday was completely sold out, and we expect to have a full house this year both days. |
