Rhett Akins (born October 13, 1969 in Valdosta, Georgia) is an American country music singer-songwriter. He debuted in late 1994 with "What They're Talking About", the first single from his album ''A Thousand Memories''. Akins' second album, ''Somebody New'', produced the Number One hit "Don't Get Me Started" upon its 1996 release. After Decca Nashville was merged into MCA Nashville in 1998, Akins released ''What Livin's All About''; unlike his previous albums, however, it produced no Top 40 hits on the country charts.
''Friday Night in Dixie'' followed in 2002 on Audium Entertainment|Audium/Koch, with ''People Like Me'' being released five years later on BNA Records|BNA. These albums also produced minor chart singles, but no Top 40 hits.
Akins also co-wrote Brooks & Dunn's 2008 single "Put a Girl in It".
