Rufus McGarrigle Wainwright (born July 22, 1973) is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter. He has recorded five albums of original music, several extended play|EPs, and numerous tracks included on compilations and film soundtracks. He is the son of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, brother of Martha Wainwright, and half-brother of Lucy Wainwright Roche.

Early years
Rufus Wainwright was born in Rhinebeck, New York, to folk singers Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III (a direct descendant of Peter Stuyvesant, the last Director-General of New Netherland<ref>{{citeweb|url=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:08q7g4gttv8z~T1|title=Loudon Wainwright III|work=Allmusic|accessdate=2006-10-27</ref>). His parents divorced when he was 3 years old, and he lived with his mother in Montreal, Canada, for most of his youth. The Hop Farm Festival’s aim is to take the festival experience back to basics with everyone who attends getting exactly the same experience, enjoying great music in a great setting.
Vince Power, the man behind The Hop Farm Festival, recently commented ‘I’ve been watching the festival market for the last couple of years and I just felt that it was frustrating for the punter that there was such a big emphasis on sponsorship, VIP and upgrading your ticket to get into a special area. We did an online survey and the feedback was among young fans that often the person buying the ticket ended up feeling the lowest on the pecking order. I thought it was time to go back to basics and let it be about the punter and the music. I think you will see a change in festivals completely in the next two or three years.
Bands rely on live performances much more than they did in previous years, the market is changing and I think the bigger bands will have a lot more input into the festivals because it is clear that they could do their own festivals if they want to. I am getting really good feedback from the artists and the agents it’s about having a good festival, happy customers and happy artists’

Yeni folk ozanlarından yollarını İstanbul’a düşürmeyen neredeyse kalmadı. Geçtiğimiz yıllarda Antony and the Johnsons, Cocorosie ve Kings Of Convenience gibi isimleri sunan Caz Festivali, bu yıl da yeni folk ve barok pop akımının önemli temsilcilerinden Rufus Wainwright’ı ağırlıyor. Müzisyen bir aileye doğan Wainwright, ilk turnesine on üç yaşındayken annesi Kate McGarrigle ve kızkardeşi Martha Wainwright ile çıktı. 1998’de kendi adıyla çıkardığı ilk albümünün ardından ünü hızla yayılan sanatçı, “Want One” ve “Release The Stars” gibi albümlerle büyük övgü topladı. Leonard Cohen’in “Everybody Knows” cover’ı ile müzikseverlerin aklını başından aldı. Bu yıl yayınlanan “Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall” albümü ile de hayranı olduğu Garland’a saygısını sundu. Kendisini İstanbul’daki ilk konserinde piyanosu ve muhteşem sesi ile tek başına izleyeceğiz!
