Saul Stacey Williams (born February 29, 1972) is an American poet, writer, actor and musician known for his blend of poetry and alternative hip-hop and for his leading role in the independent film ''Slam (film)|Slam''.
Biography
He was born in Newburgh, New York. Williams is the youngest of three children. After graduating from Morehouse College with a B.A. in philosophy, Williams moved to New York City to earn a Master's Degree at New York University in acting. Here he found himself at the center of the New York cafe poetry scene. On his birthday, February 29th, 2008, Williams married his longtime girlfriend, Persia White. He was formerly married to artist Marcia Jones,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://natcreole.com/may.issue/printable/art-title1.htm|title=Marcia Jones|publisher=Nat Creole|accessdate=2008-18-08</ref> and his collection of poems S/HE is a series of reflections on the demise of the relationship. Williams and Jones have one daughter, Saturn Williams. Saul Williams esiintyy Tavastialla 8.7.2008 osana Fulsteamin Pitkä Kuuma Kesä-tapahtumasarjaa.
Suomeen parin vuoden tauon jälkeen saapuva amerikkalainen hiphop -tähti Saul Williams heittää heinäkuussa minikiertueen, jolla hän esiintyy Turussa, Tampereella ja Helsingissä.
90-luvulla uransa aloittanut Williams on noussut uuden vuosituhannen puolella yhdeksi huomattavimmista afroamerikkalaisen populaarikulttuurin sanansaattajista. Monitaituri tunnetaan musiikkinsa lisäksi myös runoilijana, spoken word -artistina, luennoitsijana, yhteiskuntakriitikkona, näyttelijänä ja kansainvälisesti palkittuna käsikirjoittajana.
Williamsin vuonna 2001 ilmestynyt debyyttilevy ”Amethyst Rock Star” nosti miehen suoraan hip hopin kuumimpien tulokkaiden joukkoon. Williamsin itse industrial-punk-hopiksi kutsuma musiikki vakuutti saman tien niin yleisön kuin kriitikotkin - amerikkalaislegenda Rick Rubinin tuottama albumi valittiin muun muassa The Times -lehdessä vuoden levyksi. Miehen viime vuonna ilmestynyt, Nine Inch Nails - keulahahmo Trent Reznorin tuottama kolmoskiekko ”The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!” jatkoi Radioheadin viitoittamalla tiellä, ja se julkaistiin vain internetissä. Williams on aiemmin esiintynyt monien rockin silmäätekevien, kuten Nine Inch Nailsin ja The Mars Voltan kanssa.
