Soulfly is a Heavy metal music|heavy metal band formed in 1997 in Arizona. Led by founder, frontman, songwriter and only constant member Brazilian Max Cavalera, who formed the band after he left influental Brazilian death metal|death/thrash metal|thrash band Sepultura in 1996. The band has released six studio albums, one tour Extended play|EP, several singles, and one DVD video.

Soulfly incorporates thrash metal, groove metal, with Brazilian tribal music and world music. The band has had all six of their studio albums debut on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 with their second album ''Primitive (album)|Primitive'', and the band's debut album ''Soulfly (album)|Soulfly'', has been certified RIAA certification|gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

History

Formation

Brazilian heavy metal songwriter, guitarist and singer Max Cavalera formed the band in 1997, following his split with the legendary Brazilian thrash metal band Sepultura in 1996 and the death of his stepson Dana Wells. Previous line-ups have included bands such as Children of Bodom, In Flames, Testament, Arch Enemy, Saxon, Lacuna Coil, Turisas, Stratovarius, Edguy, Ensiferum and more! Band signing sessions take place regularly throughout the course of the festival, wherein fans can get their merchandise signed by performing artists. There is also a 'Metal Karaoke' each night after all of the bands have finished.
