Tangerine Dream is an influential Germany|German electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The band has undergone many personnel changes over the years, with Froese being the only continuous member. Drummer and composer Klaus Schulze was briefly a member of an early lineup, but the most stable version of the group, during their influential mid-1970s period, was as a keyboard trio with Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. Early in the 1980s, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann, and this lineup, too, was stable and extremely productive.
Tangerine Dream's early "Pink Years" albums had a pivotal role in the development of Krautrock. Their "Virgin Years" and later albums became a defining influence in the genre known as New Age music, although the band themselves disliked the term.
Although the group has released numerous studio and live recordings, a substantial number of their fans were introduced to Tangerine Dream by their film soundtracks, which total over sixty and includes ''Sorcerer (film)|Sorcerer,'' ''Thief (film)|Thief,'' ''The Keep (film)|The Keep,'' ''Risky Business,'' ''Firestarter (film)|Firestarter,'' ''Legend (film)|Legend,'' ''Near Dark,'' and ''Miracle Mile (movie)|Miracle Mile''.

3. Tangerine Dream at Royce Hall, UCLA, LA on 7 Nov 2008
Earning a tenacious cult following in 1974 for their stunning debut album Phaedra, the groundbreaking German group Tangerine Dream has played a major role in the rise of electronic music – from the krautrock of the early ‘70s to the synth pop of the ‘80s to the ambient and electronica dance music of today. Led by visionary founder Edgar Froese, this über-influential band brings their spacey, pulsating sound to UCLA Live in a concert celebrating its 40th anniversary. Accompanied by the group’s dazzling trademark light and video choreography, the program will feature music from their more than 50 television and movie soundtracks, and some of their most popular works from the 1970s-1990s. “Tangerine Dream stays vigorously on track and on theme, daring their listeners to follow them into the surreal landscapes of the dreamed and desired” [The New York Times].
