The Zutons
The Zutons are an England|English Indie music|indie rock music|rock band (music)|band from Liverpool.

History
The Zutons formed in Liverpool in 2001, taking their name from The Magic Band guitarist Bill Harkleroad, better known as Zoot Horn (or "Zuton") Rollo. Dave McCabe had previously been in Tramp Attack, and Russ and Sean were in The Big Kids (with Howie Payne of The Stands). Originally a four-piece, Sean's girlfriend Abi Harding began joining The Zutons on stage for a couple of songs mid-set, playing simple saxophone lines. She was very popular with the crowd. The other band members liked the way her saxophone enhanced their sound. Abi became a full member, contributing vocals and sax.

At first, the band had to battle comparisons to The Coral. Both bands were Merseyside bands prominent members of the Liverpool music scene, on the same record label, and they shared the same producer, Ian Broudie. The band's music has proved difficult to categorize, being described as "psychedelic cartoon punk" [http://brits.co.uk/artists/The_Zutons/]. McCabe, who is also the lead songwriter, includes amongst his influences Talking Heads, Devo, Sly & the Family Stone, Dexys Midnight Runners and Madness (band)|Madness.

The first record the band put out was the 3-track CD ''Devil's Deal'', released in September 2002. The following spring they released ''Creep... read all

    2. Oxegen on 11 Jul 2008
    Location: An Nás, Ireland

Oxegen is an annual music festival, held since 2004, sponsored by Heineken International. It was previously called Witnness, which ran from the year 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness. Oxegen was originally a two-day festival but for 2008 will be expanded to three days. It takes place at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland and has an average attendance of around 80,000 a day, with around half of these camping on site for the duration, and the rest travelling to the site each day. The festival is promoted by MCD.

While Oxegen has not yet reached the iconic status of Glastonbury, it still manages to attract a large quantity of high profile acts each year. Generally, the festival's line-up is identical to that of T in the Park, which runs on the same weekend, but in Scotland. Many acts play Oxegen on the day that they're not playing TitP.
As well as six stages of music, there are two large areas for camping which are subdivided by number. Stalls and shops are also provided, as well as toilet and shower areas (from 2006). The toilet facilities have been criticised by some as not being adequate for the large number of people at the festival. There is also a funfair adjacent to the arena, featuring a big wheel and other rides, such as the "Magic Carpet", the "Big Drop", and the roller coaster.

    8. V Festival on 16 Aug 2008
    Location: Weston-under-Lizard, Stafford, TF11 8LE, United Kingdom

The V Festival is an annual music festival in England, the first to be held simultaneously at two sites - currently Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire. Originally, the festival took the name of the current year, with the first festival being named "V96". Since 2003 it has been known as simply the V Festival.

The idea for V came in 1995 when Pulp's front man Jarvis Cocker announced he'd love to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulp's promoters got together and came up with the idea of putting the gig into Victoria Park Warrington and Hylands Park Chelmsford giving fans in both the North and South a chance to see the band. Then came the idea of adding more bands to the bill, putting on a second day and letting people camp for the weekend! In the end Victoria Park was just too small for two stages and camping. So in August 1996 there was one day of artists in Victoria Park and two days at Hylands Park with camping. The northern leg of V97 was switched Leeds Temple Newsham to provide room for camping and three stages. In 1999 the Northern leg of the festival was moved to Weston Park in Staffordshire and has remained there since.

The "V" represents the Virgin Group, and began as another means of promoting Richard Branson's companies. The event is sponsored by Virgin Mobile, with Virgin Radio the official radio station.

The festival generally takes place during the penultimate weekend of August. Its weekend format, low queuing times and professional organisation have given it a loyal audience. The festival sold out in record time in 2006.

Although predominantly rock music, the festival books a wide range of music and is probably the most likely amongst UK festivals to book some pop acts each year. Mel C, Dido, and N.E.R.D. have all performed at the festival, and both Razorlight and Faithless performed in 2006. V showcases a mix of British and international musicians, from up-and-coming bands such as Coldplay in 2000 and the Kaiser Chiefs in 2003, and glam rockers El Presidente in 2005, to veteran crooner Tony Christie. Girls Aloud also performed at the 2006 show, and received rave reviews for their performance. McFly performed at the festival in 2007 and received a huge turnout and great reviews that were not expected.
