Yann Tiersen
 Guillaume Yann Tiersen (born 23 June 1970) is a France|French musician and composer known internationally for composing the score to the Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie Amélie<ref>[http://www.cafebabel.com/de/article.asp?T=T&Id=10595 Article in CafeBabel] (Deutsch)</ref><ref>[http://www.musicomh.com/interviews/yann-tiersen.htm Yann Tiersen interview]</ref>. His music is recognized by its use of a large variety of instruments in relatively Minimalist music|minimalist compositions, often with a touch of either European classical music or french folk music, using primarily the piano, accordion or violin together with instruments like the melodica, xylophone, toy piano, ondes martenot, harpsichord and typewriter. He has been compared to musicians Chopin, Erik Satie, Phillip Glass and Michael Nyman <ref>[http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/tiersen_yann/bio.jhtml Artist bigraphy at VH1]</ref>.

Biography

Tiersen was born in Brittany, France, in 1970 and received classical training at several musical academies, including those in Rennes, Nantes, and Boulogne-sur-Mer|Boulogne<ref>[http://everything2.com/index.pl?node=Yann+Tiersen Artist biography at Everything2.com]</ref>.
